Sneaker Rant

It’s interesting how people complain about prices of sneakers. For example, two pairs of shoes this year that people complained about the price are the Lebron 9 Elite at $250 and the Lebron X+ Sports Pack at $270.

However, put a nice colorway or a colorway that builds tremendous hype, such as the South Beach Elites and the Lebron X+ Gold Medal, and people go bananas over the shoe and the price tag is not an issue. Those shoes sold out in minutes.

Hype builds demand, demand exceeds supply, and resellers bank off people who truly want the shoe. If Nike sees that these shoes are flying off the shelves at the retail price, that price tag is not dropping anytime soon. In fact, Nike can increase the price and consumers will still buy the shoes. Sneakerheads should not be surprised by Nike’s pricing, it’s the supply and demand economic model in effect.

Going to another example with Jordan Brand Retros. Many complain about the poor quality of the shoes (the materials, the paintjob, glue and stitching issues) and the $160 price tag. However, come release day 8 AM, people will be in front of computer screens or lining up in front of stores waiting to get their pair. If Jordan Brands see a low quality product fly off the shelves at $160 and above, they are not going to do anything to improve quality.

If you want to see prices drop, if you want to see retro quality improve, there’s only one thing that you can do: DO NOT BUY THE SHOE. Let them sit in the shelves and collect dust. That’s the only way you’ll see prices drop, see them in the outlets, and maybe Jordan Brand will actually look into their product and see why it’s not selling. I don’t see this happening for the really hyped shoes and most Jordan retros. There’s too much demand for that to happen.

At the end of day, it’s your money. Buy what you like, not because of hype. Don’t let hype dictate your decision. If you truly love the shoes, then by all means go after it. However, prices of those beloved Jordans, Lebrons, Foamposites, and Yeezys won’t be going down anytime. In fact, you might as well save the extra money in the future as the sky’s the limit for pricing.

While the tourists stock up on running shoes, us locals were coppin these. Olympic 7s hit the outlet. Had to get another pair. #nikeoutlet #Jordan #Retro7 #Olympic #sneakerheadproblems #sneakerhead (Taken with Instagram at Nike Factory Store)
